Egg
For our latest date night we headed a little further afield into Bregenzerwald. We’d driven past Sarah Kocht in the new Posthouse building a few times, and I always thought it looked lovely — but we needed a child‑free evening to finally try it. When the chance came, it was absolutely worth the wait.
First Impressions
We parked in the underground garage beneath the Posthouse, and I was already taking photos before we even reached the restaurant. The building has a stunning staircase that spirals around the inside, and once inside the actual restaurant, the design only gets better.
Concrete walls, modern lighting, and different seating areas each with their own atmosphere — it’s stylish without feeling cold. There are plenty of tables, but I’d still recommend booking, especially on weekends. You can sit at the bar for a drink, and then this wraps around to the open kitchen, where you can watch the team preparing every dish. It reminded me a lot of the restaurant design you see in Sydney: modern, open, yet relaxed and welcoming.
Seasonal, Elegant Food
The menu focuses on seasonal produce and familiar dishes, each with a little twist. I had a sous‑vide chicken breast with herb risotto and a fresh salsa — simple, comforting, and really well cooked. They also serve their creamy butter chicken, homemade pasta, and fish dishes.
The concept centres around simple, well‑cooked dishes with thoughtful, creative touches and really lovely presentation. Everything we tried was nicely balanced — the roasted tomato soup was light, the salad had a bit of crunch from seeds and nuts, and the portions were just right. You get dishes that feel that little bit special, at prices that feel fair for what you’re getting.
Dessert Highlights
Since it was our first child‑free evening in a while, we went all in and ordered dessert — and they truly saved the best for last.
I had a lemon blondie with popcorn, popcorn‑caramel ice cream, and the most delicious cream sauce. It was incredible. I definitely didn’t have space for it, but it was so good that I finished it anyway.
The Story Behind the Details
Following our visit Sarah took the time to provide me with more background on how the restaurant was brought to life, and it made our visit feel even more special. Sarah grew up in Egg, and her mother’s family is from here as well, so opening a restaurant in the village simply felt like the perfect fit. The concept didn’t just appear overnight — it grew from her long‑held dream of opening her own place, and was shaped over time, incorporating many small personal details that make the experience feel so thoughtful and intentional. Every detail has a story: the symbols on the menu come from an old lace‑making pattern from her grandfather’s former factory, the poems are written by her grandmother, and the whole visual identity was shaped through thoughtful storytelling. Even more touching is how involved her entire family is — from her father baking the bread to her sister running social media and her cousin cooking beside her. All these small, personal elements come together to create the atmosphere you feel the moment you walk in: a restaurant built not just with skill, but with history, intention, and heart.
This is a place I’ll happily recommend to anyone — even if you’re not close by, it’s worth the drive.
