Restaurant Dornbirn

    Le Burger

    Hohenems

This is our favourite burger place in Vorarlberg. Personally, I like a burger to be meaty and not greasy, and Le Burger delivers every single time. What I also appreciate is that it doesn’t feel like a fast‑food chain. It’s a relaxed, sit‑down restaurant with table service — but it’s not somewhere you linger all evening. That makes it perfect for families and groups of friends who want great food without the formality.

The restaurant itself is the absolute definition of a cool interior, with every type of seating you can imagine: tables, booths, and even swinging chairs (although perhaps not for those prone to motion sickness!). They clearly love a good wallpaper, an upholstered chair and a funky light fixture. The puns on the walls and on the servers’ T-shirts are endless, and I absolutely love them. Even the bathrooms are worth a visit just to admire the wallpaper.

The menu is huge — and when I say huge, I mean there truly is a burger for everyone. And if you still can’t find exactly what you’re craving, you can build your own. They offer classics like bacon cheeseburgers, farmhouse‑style, Argentinian and Italian‑inspired options, high‑protein burgers served with broccoli, chicken, beef, veggie burgers, and a rotating selection of specials. And if you’re not in the mood for a burger at all, they also serve wraps, steaks, and a good range of salads.

My personal favourite is the farmhouse burger. A fried egg and mushrooms on a burger will win me over any day of the week.

A strong selling point for my kids is the sauce bar, where you can help yourself to as much homemade sauce as you like. There are classics such as ketchup, mayonnaise, and BBQ sauce, alongside more adventurous flavours like pineapple curry, taco mayo, and their signature sauce. I’m very much looking forward to the day my girls are tall enough to reach it themselves so I don’t have to keep getting up to help them.

The service is always friendly and efficient, no matter how busy the restaurant gets. At weekends, I would definitely recommend booking, as it fills up quickly.

This is a firm family favourite and will always be one of our go-to places for eating out. Even without the kids, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxed dinner centred around simply good food.

Takeaway is also available if you prefer to enjoy your burger at home, and you can reserve a table online for added convenience.

  • Le Jasmin

    Le Jasmin

    Dornbirn

With a works night out planned, it was the perfect chance to try Le Jasmin’s new location. Same concept, same goal, but with a few new dishes and a fresh, modern look in their Schillerstraße restaurant.

Their slogan says it all: enjoy food without the guilt. They’re introducing Syrian specialities to Vorarlberg and giving people the chance to discover new flavour experiences.

What to expect: meals prepared fresh every day, using only natural, unprocessed ingredients. Think chickpeas, olives, tomatoes, apricots, pomegranate, dates, figs — and plenty of flavour from mint, coriander, parsley, cardamom, cinnamon, saffron.

Six of us met and had a proper feast. The first challenge was simply deciding what to order. I think they asked us three times if we were ready because there was so much we wanted to try.

We were a mix of meat‑eaters and vegetarians, and everyone had plenty of options.

We started the night with a variety of their dips and warm handmade bread. The clear winner was the Muhammara (roasted capsicum and walnut), closely followed by their hummus. We added Berak Spinat (baked pastry with spinach) and Berak Käse (crispy pastry filled with three cheeses). Both were absolutely delicious.

By the time the mains arrived, we were already well on the way to being full, but that did not stop us.

Here we had a mixed bag of experiences. The salads aren’t really a main and work better as a side, even though the pricing suggests otherwise. The aubergine was full of flavour, but compared to the meat dishes, it could have used a side to round it out.

I ordered the lamb Kafta, which was fantastic — a huge burst of flavour with savoury meat, sweetness from pomegranate, and smokiness from aubergine. It was a generous portion and I couldn’t finish it. The chicken skewers were also a hit, and the recommendation to swap chips for their specialty smoked rice was absolutely the right choice.

All in all, the food is packed with flavour, and you get to experience some wonderful and unusual ingredients. There were noticeable variations in portion sizes and expectations, but nothing that took away from the evening.

Final thoughts: Le Jasmin delivers bold, vibrant dishes made with care and fresh ingredients. The new location feels modern and inviting, and the menu offers something genuinely different for Vorarlberg. The overall experience was warm, generous, and full of flavour — and we left already talking about what we’d try next time.

Moji restaurant | Need Korean & BBQ

    Hohenems

    Moji

This newly opened restaurant is run by the same team behind Need Korean Cuisine & BBQ and the co‑founders of Mint11 in Dornbirn. The interior is beautifully designed, all in neutral shades making a very calm, and relaxing atmosphere.

I’m a huge fan of dumplings and ramen, so I’m thrilled that more places in Vorarlberg are offering them — and not just offering them, but doing them really well.

It was a Monday night, and so as it was a school night we decided to try their homemade speciality soda with grapefruit peel. It was very simple concept, yet so refreshing and full of flavour.

Their specialities are ramen and sushi, but we couldn’t resist starting with a few small dishes. Ever since trying okonomiyaki (the savoury Japanese pancake) in Japan, I’ve been searching for it here — and finally found it on Moji’s menu. Ordering it was a no‑brainer. We paired it with handmade pork and prawn wontons, and both were excellent. The pancake was soft, yet crispy on the outside, and topped with just the right amount of sauce. Other starters include octopus bites and fried chicken, plus a good selection of gyoza.

For my main, I had to try the miso chicken ramen — miso ramen is my favourite — and it didn’t disappoint. The broth was creamy, rich, and had a gentle kick. I couldn’t finish the whole bowl after the starters, but I really wished I could have. Their sushi variations are also far from ordinary, with options like fried prawns, eel, tofu, and sauces ranging from spicy mayo to truffle mayo, teriyaki, and mango.

    Need Korean Cuisine & BBQ

A few weeks earlier, the same friend and I had dinner at Need. It’s tucked away behind the station, under a block of flats, but don’t let the location fool you — it’s already popular, and booking is definitely recommended.

The atmosphere here is completely different from Moji: darker, moodier, and very modern. You order everything via a tablet at your table, but the staff are always happy to help or answer questions.

I haven’t tried the Korean BBQ option yet — mostly because I prefer not to cook my own food when I go out — but watching other tables, it looked fantastic.

We started with veggie gyoza and then both chose chicken dishes. Mine was sweet and spicy; my friend’s crispy chicken arrived on a tray because the portion was so generous, complete with sides. Everything was well cooked and full of flavour. We even packed up the leftovers, as it was too good to leave.

On a previous visit, I tried their bibimbap, which was excellent, and they offer a wide range of sushi too. You will never leave here hungry and always want to come back to try something different.

  • Café Bardeli

    Café Bardeli

    Hohenems

“What is worth serving is worth doing right.” That’s the philosophy at Café Bardeli, and in my opinion, they are doing it exceptionally well.

I’ve now visited this beautiful, cosy café twice—once for brunch with my family and once for lunch with a friend. On both occasions, the food, service and atmosphere were outstanding, making it somewhere I know I’ll be returning to again and again.

    A warm welcome

Our first visit was for Saturday brunch with our two daughters. We’d booked a table but, surprisingly, arrived a little early (quite an achievement for a family with young children!). As we approached the café, my youngest suddenly announced she urgently needed the toilet—a far more familiar moment.

I explained that we were early and would have to wait, but Aina, who was setting up outside, overheard us and immediately welcomed us in. She insisted it was no problem at all and encouraged us to make ourselves comfortable. It was such a simple gesture, but it instantly made us feel at home.

Having noticed us speaking both English and German with the girls, Aina kindly asked which language we would prefer, and we ended up chatting with her about the café and its story. Together with Morne, who leads the kitchen, they’ve created a place that feels genuinely warm and welcoming.

One thing that really stood out was how accommodating they were for families. They happily offered to prepare something different for our daughters if the brunch menu wasn’t suitable. In the end, our youngest enjoyed a simple plate of freshly cooked eggs, while our eldest had no trouble polishing off the brioche French toast!

As for me, I chose the Eggs Florentine—something I hadn’t eaten since moving to Vorarlberg—and it was every bit as good as I’d hoped. The soft brioche, perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise and fresh vegetables made for an absolutely delicious breakfast.

    Back for lunch

After our first visit, I started following Café Bardeli on Instagram, and every day their lunch specials seemed to tempt me a little more. Eventually, when I had the chance to meet a friend for lunch, there was only one place I wanted to go.

It was a beautiful sunny day, so we sat outside and enjoyed watching the world go by. The lunch menu is inspired by the slow food philosophy, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. You’ll find colourful bowls, and vibrant salads, with options to add chicken, falafel or halloumi, as well as flavoursome curries and lots more (follow them on Instagram for their actual lunch menu, as it changes often).

We both chose one of their summer bowls, filled with grains, crisp seasonal salad, fresh vegetables and a mouth-watering salsa, accompanied by a glass of wine. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and it was clear that quality ingredients are at the heart of every dish.

Their homemade buns and focaccia also looked delicious, and I already know what I’ll be ordering on my next visit.

The menu changes regularly according to the season,—although it does leave me wishing I lived a little closer, because I’d happily become a daily visitor.

To finish, we enjoyed one last coffee, although we simply couldn’t find room for one of their homemade cakes.

Café Bardeli is one of those places where you instantly feel welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is genuinely friendly, and the food is thoughtfully prepared using excellent seasonal ingredients. It’s the kind of café where time seems to slow down, encouraging you to stay just a little longer over another coffee, another conversation… or perhaps another plate of delicious food.

If you’re looking for somewhere that combines outstanding food with genuine hospitality, Café Bardeli is well worth a visit.
