Lochau
On the Saturday night after we had just spent three days moving into our first home together we were pretty exhausted and in no mood to cook. We also could not find our kitchen underneath all of the boxes, and so I was excited to try out somewhere new in the area and whilst driving through Lochau Gasthaus Messmer caught our eye.
My initial thought when walking in the door was how instantly at home I felt. It was warm and inviting and they have an array of different rooms for all occasions like the wine cellar, cigar lounge, and winter garden.
They pride themselves on serving up Austrian cuisine with an emphasis on high quality basic ingredients, obtained specifically from suppliers and producers in the Bodensee region, in order to showcase the beauty and diversity of the area. Their menu of good honest, traditional food will excite and delight with its modern twists and inventive dishes.
The menu changes with the seasons, as well as having daily recommendations to choose from for starters, mains and dessert.
Some examples of menu items include:
-
Traditional Wiener Schnitzel or Zwiebelrostbraten
-
Zander fillet on sweet potato purée with spicy lemon grass foam and spring onions
-
Vegan root vegetable goulash with sweet potatoes and smoked tofu
-
Schlutzkrapfen (Tirol ravioli dumplings) with spinach filling served with nut butter, chives and matured Bregenzerwald cheese
-
White chocolate mousse tart with passion fruit, served with marinated Thai mango ice cream and homemade sour cream
