Canapé Coffee

Götzis

Didn’t your Mum always used to tell you that breakfast is the most important meal, and that it sets you up for the rest of the day. Well the breakfast at Canapé will set you up for the rest of the week. This is an absolutely must to add to your breakfast/brunch hitlist.

We were in Götzis after a very early meeting and we were starving and looking for somewhere to grab some breakfast. When walking past Canapé I originally thought it was just a small chain coffee house where we could grab a takeaway coffee. Boy was I wrong. This casual and welcoming hangout am Garnmarkt in Götzis serves up brilliant food and coffee and is now one of our breakfast favourites.

We visit regularly, specifically so that Roger can tuck into their “Americano” breakfast. It is made up of seemingly endless dishes, with each magically appearing before your eyes just when you thought you were finished. Therefore make sure you visit with an empty stomach. They will start you off with their fried eggs and bacon, served with a  bagel and deliciously creamy peanut butter (which I have to admit I usually eat most of. My peanut butter obsession is pretty bad, and it is absolutely amazing smoothered on a bagel). Then comes a stack of gorgeous, fluffy pancakes with a jug of maple syrup for you to drown them in, which is Rogers Achilles heel.  The quantity does not exceed the quality though and each dish is exceedingly tasty and even if you feel fit to burst, you can’t help but finish off the whole plate.

If that is a bit too much for you early in the day, then perhaps try something a bit lighter off their breakfast menu. Maybe their Vegan platter is more up your street, made up of wholewheat bread served with spreads such as avocado and hummus, or simply pick out a few dishes to try like their homemade muesli, or buttery croissants.

Of course, every breakfast comes with a coffee or tea of your choice and that choice may take a while as they have a pretty robust coffee menu. Each time I have been we have both drunk two coffees each, and for a coffee snob that’s saying something.

If breakfast is not really your thing, then definitely visit for lunch as the rest of their menu is just as good, and you are sure to find something to your liking. They have a few tapas dishes to sample, a really good selection of bagels (sadly not all with peanut butter :)) and burgers, a few pasta dishes and really good salad options to snack on.

Their weekly menu and seasonal hits are also always good to check out. They make a lot in house, including some mouthwatering cakes which greet you as you walk in the door, which go perfectly with your coffee. Or try to resist their homemade brownies or cookies for a quick sugar hit mid shopping.

This hotspot is a great relaxed local, perfect for catching up with friends or for a quick break before you shop until you drop.

Please note that since having children, we have also visited for breakfast. However, when the children were younger, there were no highchairs available, so this is something to keep in mind if visiting with little ones.
