There’s something about a dark, rainy autumn evening that makes you crave comfort food. We visited this Japanese restaurant shortly after the clocks went back, and stepping inside was just the escape we were looking for; warm, and cosy but with an upmarket feel.
Although the menu is primarily Japanese, there are a handful of other Asian-inspired dishes too. Sushi lovers are well catered for, with an impressive selection of rolls, nigiri and speciality creations, but on such a cold evening we found ourselves drawn to the warmer dishes instead.
To start, we shared the Takoyaki (octopus balls) drizzled with Okonomi sauce and the Tori Karaage, crispy fried chicken served with spicy mayonnaise. Both disappeared quickly. If you’re dining with friends and struggle to choose, there’s also a tapas-style sharing platter for two, which lets you sample a variety of starters.
As a ramen enthusiast, choosing a main course was easy. I opted for the Tempura Miso Ramen, which came with crispy prawns served separately to keep them wonderfully crunchy. The peanut and miso broth was rich, creamy and incredibly moreish. It was exactly the kind of bowl you want to curl up with on a cold autumn night.
My friend ordered the Korean Beef Bulgogi, and the portion size was impressive. The tender beef and rice arrived separately, and there was enough food to feed two. Despite her best efforts, she couldn’t quite finish it all.
There were plenty of other tempting dishes on the menu that caught my eye, including the Japanese Wagyu beef (which needs to be pre-ordered), duck dishes and a Japanese or Thai style curry. The sushi selection looked equally tempting, with options such as truffle crab rolls, spicy salmon rolls and a wide range of nigiri.
By the end of the meal we were far too full to even consider dessert, although the mango crème brûlée is already on my list for next time.
If you’re looking for a cosy spot for a date night, dinner with friends, or simply a warming bowl of ramen on a rainy Vorarlberg evening, this restaurant is definitely worth adding to your list.
