They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I couldn’t agree more.
Whether you’re looking for a slow weekend brunch, a delicious coffee and pastry, or simply somewhere to start your day well, Vorarlberg has some wonderful breakfast spots to discover. Here are a few of my favourite places to enjoy a relaxed breakfast whenever the mood takes you.

Platz 66, Mellau
Their cafe/ deli really makes the most out of the fantastic regional produce in Bregenzerwald, offering an incredible breakfast buffet. The bread from Bäckerei Kleber in Bezau and their homemade marmalades and spreads are a highlight, as well as their freshly made sweet treats. As well as their buffet they offer eggs (cooked however you like them, even poached) with avocado or bacon, and a few other smaller dishes like muesli. However the star is most definitely the coffee (it is delicious) and to enjoy all this whilst surrounded by the mountains means this is one not to miss.

Feldkirch
In the heart of Feldkirch, this café/shop serves what might be the best French toast in the region. Sweet or savoury — both versions are worth ordering. Their menu also includes pancakes and classics like avocado on toast, all paired with great coffee.

Am Garnmarkt, Götzis
Before a day of shopping until you drop, make sure you fill up on a good hearty breakfast, and Canapé Coffee has all of your breakfast needs covered. Fluffy pancakes, homemade Birchermuesli, croissants, bagels, and bread smoothered in a whole range of spreads and marmalades, all washed down with a delicious coffee or tea of your choice.
Hohenems

Home to Fernkart chocolate, if you make it through their irresistible shop on the way to the cafe without buying your weight in chocolate, I salute you. This cafe caters to all breakfast tastes from the traditional homemade bread and croissants, marmalade’s, meat and cheeses, to amazingly fluffy pancakes and fresh fruit, smoked salmon toast, to a full English fry up. You can also mix and match with a choice of extras, but I can definitely recommend the breakfast tower for 2 (or 3 people). You will be served up literally with a tower of food and the best bit, it comes with two of their finest pralines and a glass of prosecco to wash it down. Their toasts are also absolutely delicious. Try their mushroom, ham and cheese melt, and I guarantee you will not leave unsatisfied.

Hohenems
This café feels like a home away from home — a cosy interior, the most welcoming service, and a food concept built around international dishes made from local, seasonal produce. Brunch ranges from classics like Eggs Benedict, Royal or Florentine, to bowls packed with seasonal ingredients, sandwiches piled high with fresh flavours, and of course their brioche French toast (my daughter nearly licked her plate clean after having this).
I’d definitely recommend reserving a table for brunch, especially on Saturdays, as the word has already spread about this special spot in the heart of Hohenems.

Dornbirn
Not only does this café serve my favourite coffee (at its partner roastery is next door; Kaffeewerk Handle) but their breakfast combos will have you keep coming back for more and keep you full the whole day long. With pancakes and avocado on toast on the menu, our house is well and truly catered for. Everything can also be ordered separately as well. This café is kid friendly, and you can reserve a table online.

Dornbirn
When I spotted not only avocado toast on the menu, but also French toast and pancakes, I knew this was a breakfast spot we simply had to try—and it didn’t disappoint.
My husband chose the berry French toast, which was wonderfully thick and fluffy, while I couldn’t resist the avocado toast with burrata. It was the perfect combination of creamy and fresh. Even the granola was homemade, and judging by how quickly my daughter devoured it, it was definitely a hit!

Bregenz
They serve a small breakfast menu during the week, but the real star of the show is their vegetarian brunch on Saturdays.
Everything is homemade, from the savoury favourites to the sweet treats, and they will even cook your egg exactly how you like it. Everything is beautifully served alongside their excellent coffee, complete with a tiny chocolate brownie treat to accompany your caffeine fix.
Even if you’re not vegetarian, their brunch is definitely worth trying. It’s a relaxed, delicious experience, and I would highly recommend reserving a table as it’s a popular spot for a Saturday morning.
